Final Stats

BROOKLYN, NY (Oct. 19, 2003) - Sacred Heart University juniors Christel Kalweit (West Barnstable, MA) and Ingrid Olsson (Stockholm, Sweden) scored less than three minutes apart as the Pioneers avenged a tough loss on Friday with a crucial Northeast Conference win over Long Island, 2-0 at LIU Field. The win moves SHU to 7-4-3 overall and 5-1 in the conference standings. Both teams entered the game tied for the fourth and final playoff spot in the NEC Tournament, which begins November 9 in Moon Township, PA.

Kalweit buried the deciding goal 2:31 into the second half, helping the Pioneers to their fifth win in seven outings. She received a through ball in the box from junior Nathalie Urbas (Pickering, Ontario) and buried a five-yard shot past freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Kansky for her fourth tally of the year.

Olsson added the insurance marker 4:55 into the half for her first goal of the season. The Blackbirds, now 6-7-1 overall and 4-3 in the NEC, misplayed a clearing attempt in their own box and Olsson pounced on the rebound.

Sacred Heart took advantage in a fast-paced second half despite being outshot, 10-6. Kalweit fired five shots in a contest which both teams took 13. Senior goalkeeper Leslie Konsig (Millburn, NJ) made three saves for the Pioneers to record her eighth shutout of the season.
