FAIRFIELD, CT - Junior Erin Canning (Massapequa, NY) scored the only goal of the game in the 60th minute to lead the Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over host Sacred Heart University in a Northeast Conference game Friday afternoon.
Canning's goal came out of a crowd in front of the Pioneer goal from about five yards out, beating SHU goalie Meghan Reichelt (Selden, NY) to her right.
The Pioneers, 0-9-3 overall and 0-1-2 in the NEC, outshot the Mountaineers 19-7, but Mount goalie Anna Lebo made 11 saves. The biggest save of the game came with 5:59 left when SHU was awarded a penalty kick and Lebo stopped a shot low and to her right from sophomore Ashley Testani (Monroe, CT) to preserve the win.
The loss marked the eighth time in 12 game that the Pioneers have been shutout.
