FAIRFIELD, CT - Sophomore Lara Martinez scored the winning goal in the 73rd minute on a header off a corner kick by Nicole Allen to lead the Long Island University women's soccer team to a 2-1 Northeast Conference victory over host Sacred Heart Friday afternoon.

Sacred Heart, 1-10-2 overall and 0-3 in the NEC, scored the first goal of the game after a scoreless first half. Senior Britney Dupee put the Pioneers on the board with an unassisted goal at 53:37.

LIU, 8-3-1 and 2-0, got even at 57:17 thanks to a Pioneer own goal. Caitlin Meadows sent a crossing pass in front of the goal and the ball was knocked into the net by one of the Sacred Heart defenders.

The Blackbirds outshot the Pioneers 18-7. SHU goalie Meghan Reichelt played a solid game in net, making ten saves.
