FAIRFIELD, CT (October 4, 2003) - The Sacred Heart women's soccer team got on the board just 25 seconds into the game and never looked back en route to a 2-0 Northeast Conference win over Mount St. Mary's Saturday morning. The win, the Pioneer's third-straight, improves Sacred Heart to 5-2-3 on the year and 3-0-0 in the NEC while the Mount falls to 4-7-0 and 1-3-0 in the conference.
The Pioneers used constant offensive pressure in the first half starting with Paula Pineda's (Vigo, Spain) fourth goal of the year just 25 seconds into play. Pineda took a feed from junior Ashleigh Bepko (Guilford, CT) and fired her shot past Naomi Campano from 15-yards for the what proved to be the eventual game-winner.
SHU kept the pressure up all half, outshooting Mount St. Mary's 12-2 in the period and 21-4 in the game. Junior Nathalie Urbas (Pickering, Ontario) put the game out of reach in the 25th minute when she notched her third goal of the season on a feed from fellow junior Ingrid Olsson (Stockholm, Sweden).
Senior Leslie Konsig (Millburn, NJ) need only make four saves to pick up her sixth shutout of the season. Campano and Margaret Pyzik combined to make nine saves in the loss.
Sacred Heart returns to action when they travel to Northeastern on Tuesday, October 7th for a 3 pm match.
