EMMITSBURG, Md. (September 29, 2006) - The Sacred Heart women's soccer team scored a goal just before the half and another less then five minutes in to the second half to come away with a 2-0 Northeast Conference win at Mount St. Mary's Friday afternoon. The Pioneers take the NEC opener for both teams and improve to 2-9-0 overall (1-0 NEC) while the Mount falls to 2-7-0 (0-1 NEC).
The Pioneers got on the board with just nine seconds to go before the halftime horn. SHU was awarded a penalty kick after a take down in the box. Senior Lisa Burbige (Babylon, NY) stepped up and converted for her first marker of the season and a 1-0 lead.
SHU struck again just 4:24 into the second half. Junior Allison Rojas (Manorville, NY) played a cross to the middle of the box where sophomore Britney Dupee (Portland, ME) placed a header into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. The goal was Dupee's third of the season and in as many games.
The Pioneers held a 15-13 edge is shots while the Mount finished with three corners to SHU's two.
Sacred Heart goalkeeper, senior Ashley Mocarski (Stratford, CT) made seven saves in cementing the win and collecting her first shutout of the season. MSM's Anna Lebo made four saves in taking the loss.
The NEC opening road trip continues on Sunday afternoon when the Pioneers travel to Monmouth for a 1:00 pm start.
