PRINCETON, NJ - The Sacred Heart University women's soccer team was shutout for the sixth time in nine games this season, falling to Princeton University 3-0 Wednesday night.
The Pioneers, 0-8-1, played a spirited first half but were unable to crack Princeton goalie Maren Dale. The Tigers took a 1-0 lead into the intermission thanks to an unassisted goalie by Jen Om in the third minute of the game on a rebound of an initial shot that hit the post. Princeton outshot the Pioneers 9-6 in the half.
The second half was all Tigers. The Pioneers couldn't manage a shot in the period, while Princeton had ten. Elizabeth vanBeuren made it 2-0 with a goal in the 52nd minute.
SHU freshman goalie Meghan Reichelt was forced to leave the game when she was injured on a collision in the 67th minute. She was up and walking the sidelines under her own power by the end of the game. Sophomore Kristen Burch finished the game in net for the Pioneers.
Marci Pasenello closed the scoring, beating Burch in the 77th minute off a pass from Melissa Whitley.
