PHILADELPHIA, PA - The offensive struggles for the Sacred Heart women's soccer team continued on Sunday as the Pioneers were shutout by LaSalle, 2-0. It was the third time in the first five games that the Pioneers have been blanked.
La Salle, 4-2, got on the scoreboard quickly with a goal by Traci Depasquale in the tenth minute. Melanie Gamble was credited with the assist with a pass across the front of the goal that Depasquale tucked into an open left side.
The Explorers held the 1-0 lead at the half, outshooting the Pioneers 9-2 in the first period.
La Salle added an insurance goal off SHU netminder Meghan Reichelt in the 60th minute when Depasquale hit Kristin Hextall with a pass from midfield and Hextall beat Reichelt low to the right for a 2-0 lead.
Sacred Heart, 0-5, managed just seven shots in the game, four of them from Ashley Testani. Reichelt finished the game with six saves.
The Pioneers will play at Yale on Wednesday and then return home to face the University of Maryland-Baltimore County on Friday at 3:30 p.m. The game will be available on free audio and video on SacredheartPioneers.com.
