Sept. 6, 2006
CHESTNUT HILL, MA - The Sacred Heart women's soccer team fell at the hands of the Boston College Eagles, 7-0, Wednesday afternoon at the Newton Soccer Complex. Boston College improves to 3-1, while Sacred Heart drops to 0-4.
The Eagles scored early and never looked back as junior Tara Luciani took a cross from the left side from Kerri McNicholas and struck it by SHU keeper Ashley Mocarski (Stratford, CT).
Luciani would then set up junior Kia McNeill in the box as the Eagles jumped out 2-0 at the 17 minute mark. Freshman Gina DiMartino, who now has five goals in four games, notched the first of her two goals, two minutes later off a feed from McNicholas.
McNicholas would notch her third assist as she sent Brianna Wilson-Byrne in alone for a Boston College, 5-0, lead at the 37 minute mark. In the second half the Boston College defense continued to turn the Pioneers offense away. The defense did not allow a shot, while the Eagles offense produced 23 shots and eight corner kicks to one in the match.
The scoring ended with a penalty kick by Kia McNeill, after she a foul in the box to give the Eagles a 6-0 lead with 30 minutes to play. Freshman midfielder Kelly Henderson ended the scoring on the day when she one-touched a cross from freshman Melisssa Gimpel at the 78 minute mark and a 7-0 lead.
Mocarski finished with six saves in goal.
Sacred Heart returns to action this weekend with a pair of games in the St. John's NYC NIKE Classic. SHU will face Fordham on Friday afternoon and the host Red Storm on Sunday.
