PROVIDENCE, RI (September 3, 2004)- The Sacred Heart women's soccer team dropped to 1-2 to start the year after a 3-0 to Brown University Friday evening at Stevenson Field. Bear sophomore Kathleen Waddell netted her first career goal in the 54th minute that would prove to be the game-winner. After a scoreless first half, Waddell gave Brown a 1-0 lead at the 53:16 mark. Sophomore Jill Mansfield served a flip-throw into the box, which Waddell headed into the upper right corner over an outstretched Ashley Mocarski (Stratford, CT) in the Sacred Heart net. Nearly 25 minutes later, Brown junior Meghan Schreck increased the lead to 2-0 with her first goal of the season. Sophomore Kathryn Moos, who led the Bears last season with 20 points, crossed the ball to her left from the end-line, where Schreck was waiting to head the ball past Mocarski and into the opposite corner of the net. Brown added an insurance goal with just over 18 seconds remaining in the game when freshman Anne Friedland connected with junior Christine Serdjenian, who dribbled through three defenders, before sliding the ball past Mocarski. Despite managing just three shots in the first half of play, the Pioneers applied some offensive pressure in the final 45 minutes, finishing with 13 shots in the contest. Junior Erica Rico (Cranston, RI) and senior Jasmine Urbas (Pickering, Ontario) had three shots apiece in the loss. Mocarski recorded a career-high 10 saves in goal for the Pioneers. For Brown, 1-0 to start the year, junior Hillary Wilson stopped five shots to earn the shutout. Sacred Heart will return to action on Tuesday, September 7th when they face Yale University in New Haven at 7 pm. XXXXXXXXXX
