CHESNUT HILL, Mass. - The Sacred Heart women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision at Boston College Friday night as the Eagles came away with their third-straight shutout to start the 2005 season. The Eagles improve to 3-0-0, while the Pioneers fall to 0-2-0.
Sophomore Kia McNeill scored her second goal of the season and classmate Tara Luciani scored her first goal in her season debut.
The Eagles scored their first goal at 15:07 when senior Katie McGregor fed a pass through the defense to sophomore Kia McNeill, who was sprinting down the middle of the 18-yard box. McNeill found a seam in the defense and struck the ball hard and into the right corner to put the Eagles on top 1-0.
BC came up with their second goal of the night in the 75th minute as McNeill set up fellow sophomore Tara Luciani. McNeill, with her back to the goal, sent a perfect ball to Luciani who brought the ball into the six-yard box. Using fancy footwork to beat the Sacred Heart defenders, Luciani slotted the ball into the far left corner past SHU goalkeeper Ashley Mocarski (Stamford, CT).
Junior goalkeeper Arianna Criscione collected her third straight shutout on the season with a three save effort as the Eagles extend their streak to 270 minutes without allowing a goal.
Boston College out shot SHU 19-6 in the win, including just two in the second half. Mocarski made two saves in taking the loss.
The Pioneers are right back in action this Sunday, September 4th when they travel to Brown University for a 2 pm start.
