Final Stats

Hempstead, N.Y. (Sept. 1, 2006) - Hofstra junior midfielder Larkin Hargraves scored the game's only goal 3:25 into the second half as the Pride captured a 1-0 win over visiting Sacred Heart Friday afternoon. The loss sends the Pioneers to 0-3-0 to start the 2006 season while Hofstra improves to 2-1-0.

The game-winner was set up when junior midfielder Marie Curtin got free down the right sideline. She sent a cross through the middle of the six-yard box, where it took one hop before finding Hargraves crashing in at the far post. Hargraves managed to lunge out and chest the ball down inside the far post at the 48:25 mark to give the Pride all the offense they would need.

Sacred Heart had a pair of excellent scoring chances in each half from junior Allison Rojas (Manorville, NY). She came in down the left sideline in the first half and sent a hard shot from 15 yards out inside the near post, but Hofstra goalkeeper Krystal Robens held her ground and parried the ball over the end line for a corner kick. Rojas also shook free in the second half for a shot from 25 yards out, but Robens was able to play the ball cleanly on a hop for her only second half save.

Robens finished the game with three saves to record her first collegiate shutout. Sacred Heart goalkeeper Ashley Mocarski (Stratford, CT) had three saves as well; including coming off her line to deflect a breakaway from Hofstra freshman forward Jill Lipari in the first half to keep the game scoreless. Hofstra finished with a 9-3 edge in shots and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Pioneers return to the field next Wednesday, September 6th when they travel to #10 ranked Boston College.
