Final Stats

ORONO, ME (August 27, 2004) - The Sacred Heart University women's soccer team came-up short in their 2004 season-opener, falling 1-0 at the hands of the University of Maine Friday afternoon. The Black Bears scored an early second half goal that provided all the offense they would need en route to an opening round in win in the tournament. SHU struggled mightily on offense, managing just one shot in the game, coming in the first half of play. Junior transfer Erica Rico (Cranston, RI) recorded the Pioneers lone shot on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Mocarski (Stratford, CT) recorded seven saves in her first collegiate start while taking the loss. After the two teams played to a scoreless tie over the first half of play, Maine's Heather Hathorn took a pass from Marie-Michele Bouchard in front of the goal and put it past Mocarski for the game-winner. Goalie Tanya Adorno turned away the only shot she faced to earn the win and the shutout. The Pioneers are right back in action this Sunday, August 29th when they wrap-up play in the Black Bear Invitational by facing Marist College at 12:00 pm. Maine will take-on Providence at approximately 2:00 pm. XXXXXXXXXX
