Mount Saint Mary's Defense Holds On For Victory Over Pioneers Multi-Shot Attempts

EMMITSBURG, Md.- The Sacred Heart Women's Soccer team fell to Mount Saint Mary's this afternoon in a tight defensive battle by a score of 1-0. The team will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 21 when the team hosts Robert Morris. Game-time is set for 12:00 p.m.

Mount Saint Mary's would jump out to an early lead as Maddie Tchou would receive a cross to the middle of the field and Tchou would launch a shot passed the goalie to take a 1-0 lead at 41:21. The Pioneers would attempt to comeback just a few minutes later as senior Alex Mesropyan would fire a shot but it would be fired just wide of the goal at 34:56. SHU would fire off three consecutive shots courtesy of Melanie DaSilva as one of those shots would nail the crossbar just inches away from the goal at 22:33 keeping the score at 1-0 in favor of the Mount. SHU would out shoot the Mount 9-4 in the first half while Mount Saint Mary's maintained a 1-0 heading into the second half. 

The Pioneers would not back down in shot attempts as right away Mesropyan would fire a shot at the Mount's goalie but it would be saved at 41:53. SHU would have a strong opportunity to tie the game up at 30:03 as Mount Saint Mary's would make a crucial foul giving the Pioneers a penalty kick chance. Alex Mesropyan would attempt the penalty kick but an impressive save by goalie Maggie Barron would prevent the shot from reaching the back of the new keeping the score at 1-0 in favor of the Mount. Both sides would continue to fire off shots respectivly but it would the Mount that would leave the field victorious as neither team would be able to score for the remainder of the game.
