SHU Varsity 4, Pair Qualify for Next Year's Head of the Hooch
The Sacred Heart rowing team competed at the Head of the Hooch regatta Saturday and Sunday. A successful first appearance in this prestigious event was capped with a series of automatic qualifiers for next year, including the varsity 4, which finished 16th out of 66 entries led by Tori Sufczynski, Sarah Poirier, Meghan Donelan, Juliana Merighi and Emily Casey. The open pair crew of sophomores Sufczynski and Poirier also qualified for next year, finishing 14th out of 30.

The Sacred Heart rowing team competed in the Head of the Fish regatta Saturday. Varsity open pair, Sarah Poirier and Tori Sufczynski, brought home Bronze with a time of 14:55.77. While Novice 4+ took silver in a field of 16 with Meghan Donelan, Shannon Smith, Sarah Jaquith, Juliana Merighi and coxed for the first time by Lesia Sisung.

Sacred Heart finished eighth at the 2015 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rowing Championship Sunday at Lake Mercer in Mercer County Park with 13 points. The Jacksonville Dolphins earned the MAAC’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA Rowing Championships winning the title with 53 points.

The Sacred Heart rowing team won two events at this weekend's Mets Championship at Orchard Beach in New Rochelle, N.Y. Another Strong Showing for SHU Rowing
Fairfield, Conn - The Sacred Heart rowing team hit the road last weekend to compete in both the “Head of the Fish” in Saratoga Springs, New York and the Fall Mets in Orchard Beach Lagoon, NY. The Pioneers first put together a strong performance at the “Head of the Fish”, finishing with three silver medals and one gold medal. SHU medaled in four of the six events they entered. The Novice 8 crew brought home the gold medal and the almighty Fish Head. The three silver medals were won by the Open 4, Novice 4, and the Open 8.

The field included 2,031 participants from over 600 programs representing 22 countries. First held on October 16, 1965, the Head of the Charles Regatta is the world’s largest two-day rowing event.

Pioneer Teams Receive NCAA Public Recognition Awards
On Tuesday, the NCAA announced their Public Recognition Awards with the Sacred Heart's men's indoor track and field, men's volleyball, women's cross country and rowing teams being recognized for their academic achievments. These awards are given each year to teams scoring in the top 10 percent in each sport with respect to their Academic Progress Rates (APRs). The SHU volleyball and rowing programs have earned Public Recognition Awards in each of the last six years.
