SHELTON, Conn. – Junior Jaclyn Smith (Williston Park, N.Y.) and sophomore Catherine Lott (Roxbury, Conn.) won the women's varsity two race on Sunday on the second day of the Sacred Heart Invitational in Shelton.
The duo won the race by over 11 seconds, covering the 2,000 meter course in 8:41.10. The women's novice eight crew of Christina Fratto (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), Megan Smith (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), Megan McMenimen (Arlington, Mass.), Morgan Clement (Bayonne, N.J.), Kelly Brown, Meghan Maguire (Patterson, N.Y.), Kimberly D'Adamo (Bronx, N.Y.), Christie Colucci (Danbury, Conn.), and coxswain Lauren Dufresne (Mattapoisett, Mass.) finished third in its race with a time of 8:44.42. The varsity four boat of Lott, Smith, Allison McCusker (Hingham, Mass.), senior Kaitlyn Blanda (Huntington, N.Y.), and coxswain Christina Pesci (Nutley, N.J.) finished fifth in a very competitive race, rowing a time of 9:51.10. The varsity eight had a slow start to its race and finished sixth.
The Pioneers will next compete on Saturday, April 12 at the Spring Metropolitan Regatta at Orchard Beach Lagoon, N.Y.
