SHU's Jaclyn Smith to Compete at 2013 World Rowing Championships
FAIRFIELD, CT (July 1, 2013) - Sacred Heart junior rower Jaclyn Smith (Williston Park, NY) has worked her way onto the US Para-Rowing National Team and will compete at the 2013 World Championships later this summer in South Korea.
"Not only am I honored to represent the United States but I am honored to go and compete with the love and support of my teammates and coach at Sacred Heart," stated Smith. "Everyone has been so supportive. I couldn't ask for better teammates."
Smith, who is visually impaired, was just introduced to an adaptive rowing program and applied to work out at the Para-Rowing National Development Camp. Smith was accepted and attended the LTA Para-Rowing Camp in Oklahoma City, OK last month.
From there, she moved on to the 2013 LTA4+ Selection Camp in Boston at Community Rowing Inc. from June 25th through June 30th. Smith competed in the mixed LTA 4+ event and successfully qualified for the National Team.
"Rowing at this elite level, getting great coaching, will help me better prepare to lead our team when I get back."
The 2013 World Championships are scheduled for August 26th through 29th in Chungju, South Korea.
