The Sacred Heart rowing team opened their season competiting at the Head of the Housatonic over the weekend, racing three boats in the women's collegiate division. The Pioneers took on a 2.7 mile course and some tough gusting head winds to turn in a solid early season performance.
"At the end of the day, looking at where we are in our training cycle (only 3 weeks) and how much potential our team has (majority of our rowers are still in their first year), I believe there is no other place for us to go than to improve and get better. I am so excited to see the potential that the team has and as a coach I can't ask for anything more!"
On a sunny, warm Saturday afternoon, the Pioneers battled a gusting 15 - 20 miles/hour wind in the 4+ and 8+ races. The first SHU 4+ team came home 13th out of 18 teams finishing ahead of two Fairfield University boats and one Marist boat. Sacred Heart's second 4+, (lightweight team) ,finished 16th holding their own against all the heavyweight boats with no lightweight category to compete in.
