FAIRFIELD, Conn. (March 30, 2009) - Sacred Heart junior Carissa Hauser (East Northport, NY) was named the Northeast Conference Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week announced Monday by the league office.
Hauser becomes the third different Sacred Heart player to claim NEC Player of the Week honors this season following outstanding offensive performances in three Pioneer victories. Hauser tallied seven goals, ten assists, 14 draw controls and three ground balls in the three games as Sacred Heart ran its win streak to four games and improved to 2-0 in league play. A second team all-NEC attacker last season, she scored a pair of goals, set up three different teammates and finished with three draw wins in a 12-9 victory over Lafayette on Tuesday. In Friday's 14-10 triumph over Long Island, Hauser scored three times and dished out a career high four assists, along with six draw controls and two ground balls to lead the Pioneers to their second NEC win of the year. On Sunday, the East Northport, NY native scored twice, added three assists and had five more five draw wins as Sacred Heart rolled to a 19-9 victory over Bryant. Hauser currently ranks second in the NEC with 1.80 apg and is also fourth in points (3.60 ppg) and fifth in draw controls (2.90 per game). Her 18 assists on the year represents a career-high.
Hauser and the Pioneers are back in action on Friday afternoon playing host to Robert Morris at 4:00 pm.
