Hauser and Wagner Win NEC LAX Awards

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (March 9, 2010) - Sacred Heart seniors Carissa Hauser (East Northport, NY) and Chelsea Wagner (Aurora, CO) were named the Northeast Conference Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week announced by the league office on Tuesday. Hauser earned her second Player of the Week nod this season while Wagner takes home her first Defensive Player nod of the 2010 campaign.
Hauser led the Pioneers to a 1-1 week in two games against MAAC opponents. In winning her second NEC Player of the Week award of the season and fourth of her career, she posted 15 points last week on eight goals and seven assists, including 4-4 on free position chances to go along with nine draw controls. In a 14-11 win over Iona, the Long Island native matched her season-high with five goals (3-3 FPG) while dishing out three assists and collecting six draws wins and a ground ball. In Saturday's 13-10 loss to crosstown rival Fairfield, Hauser scored three goals and dished out a season-best four assists while winning three draws. She has tallied 16 goals on 19 shots and leads the team in both goals (19) and assists (11). She is a perfect 7-7 on 8-meter attempts.
Wagner averaged 18.0 saves per game and posted a .507 save percentage in helping SHU to a 1-1 week. Wagner, who collects the fourth NEC Defensive Player of the Week award of her career, made 17 saves against 31 shots to go along with five ground balls and a caused turnover in claiming her first win of the season, 14-11, at Iona. In Saturday's 13-10 loss to Fairfield, she turned away a season-best 19 shots vs. 40 shots and collected three ground balls. Wagner is posting a 12.33 goals-against-average with 47 saves and a .580 save percentage this season.
