Final Stats

LORETTO, PA (April 15, 2006) - The Sacred Heart women's lacrosse team used a 7-0 first half run on their way to a 13-7 win over St. Francis-PA Saturday afternoon, clinching a berth in the Northeast Conference Tournament. The Pioneers make a return to the playoffs after a one-year absence as they make their fifth NEC Tournament appearance and the fourth under head coach Laura Cook.

Senior Emily Tully (South Windsor, CT) and sophomore Elizabeth Ottey (Baltimore, MD) scored three goals apiece as the Pioneers improve to 5-1 in the Northeast Conference. The Pioneers close out the regular season at home with games against Connecticut rivals Quinnipiac (4/21) and Central Connecticut (4/23).

The Red Flash (0-12, 0-7 NEC) got on the board first Saturday afternoon, scoring four minutes in off a free position shot. SHU's Tully answered at 5:18, unassisted, but St. Francis' Brittany Bullion gave the Red Flash back the lead, 2-1, at 6:49 with an unassisted tally of her own.

The St. Francis lead was short lived as the Pioneers began a 7-0 run at 7:16 with Brianna Bubeck (Bethlehem, NY) scoring unassisted and continuing through the 21:18 mark as SHU built what proved to be an insurmountable 8-2 lead. Ottey scored all three of her goals on the run and assisted on a Mary Montesarchio (Cortlandt Manor, NY) goal on the run. Tully added her second during the rally.

Shannon Scarola scored at 26:32 to end the run and send the game to the half, 8-3 Sacred Heart.

The Pioneers (5-9, 5-1 NEC) put the game away over the first nine minutes of the second half with four unanswered goals to lead 12-3. Amanda Williams (Monroe, CT), Bubeck and Tully all recorded free-position goals and Montesarchio closed the run unassisted.

St. Francis mounted a late rally, scoring four-straight of their own but SHU's Elizabeth Fisher (New Milford, CT) ended the run with a free-position goal of her own with just over two-minutes left. The Pioneers were almost perfect on their free-position attempts, hitting on six-of-seven. SHU out shot St. Francis 30-16 and won 18 draws to four.
