Brooklyn, N.Y. (April 4, 2008) - The Sacred Heart women's lacrosse team won it's sixth-straight game Friday afternoon, posting a 14-4 win at Long Island University in Northeast Conference action. SHU got three goals and three assists from sophomore Carissa Hauser (East Northport, NY) and two goals and three assists from junior Mary Montesarchio (Cortlandt Manor, NY) as they improve to 5-0 in NEC play and 8-5 overall.
Sacred Heart sprinted out to a 5-0 lead with Hauser and Montesarchio posting a pair of goals each during the opening run. LIU cut the SHU lead down to 5-3 with three straight markers from Xiomara Garcia, Annie Kalata and Christie Wienckowksi. Sacred Heart's Amanda Williams (Monroe, CT) gave the Pioneers a 7-2 lead into the break with back-to-back goals off feeds from Montesarchio.
The Pioneers put the game away with six-straight goals in the second half to take a commanding 13-3 lead. In addition to Montesarchio and Hauser's combined 11 point afternoon, senior Liz Ottey (Baltimore, MD) scored twice and assisted on two others while Williams finished with three and freshman Jessica Ingrilli (Wantagh, NY) netted two.
SHU held a 34-19 advantage on shots while also winning the ground ball battle 16-15 and the draws, 11-6. Sophomore Chelsea Wagner (Aurora, CO) made five saves in earning the victory.
Sacred Heart will close out a four-game NEC road trip on Sunday afternoon at Wagner College. Opening draw is slated for 12 noon. xxxx
