Kmiotek Scores Three but Pioneers Lose at Brown, 14-6

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (February 27, 2010) - Sacred Heart sophomore Kate Kmiotek (Farmingville, NY) scored three goals but the Pioneers fell short at Brown Saturday afternoon, 14-6. The Bears outshot the Pioneers 32-13 and forced 24 SHU turnovers in the win. The Pioneers fall to 1-2 to start the season.
The Bears (1-0) burst out to a 4-0 lead and held the Pioneers (1-2) off the scoreboard for the game's first 25 minutes. Sophomore Kaitlin Rochler (Wading River, NY) got the Pioneers on the board at 4:35 scoring unassisted for SHU's only goal of the first half.
Brown's Lindsay Minges scored at 3:06 to end the half and Kara Kelly opened the second half with a score at 27:53 to put the Bears up 6-1. Sophomore Alicia Fuchs (Bay Shore, NY) scored from 8meters to briefly sway the momentum before Brown used a 7-1 run over a 10 minute stretch to put the game away.
SHU's Carissa Hauser (East Northport, NY) scored unassisted in the middle of the run to cut the lead to 9-3 but Paris Waterman tacked on a pair followed by a Julia Keller goal for a 13-3 lead with 8:40 left.
Kmiotek scored three-straight over the final three minutes to close out the Pioneer scoring.
The Pioneers are back in action on Wednesday afternoon at Iona for a 3:00 pm start.
