DURHAM, N.H. – The Sacred Heart women's lacrosse team opened its 2018 season Saturday with a 14-2 loss to the New Hampshire Wildcats at Bremner Field.
New Hampshire (1-0) opened the game with four goals in the first 9:32, including a pair from Krissy Schafer. SHU (0-1) scored its first goal with 16:46 to play on an unassisted tally by Averi Farhat. The Wildcats added three more goals to take a 7-1 halftime lead, then scored six unanswered to open the second and take a 13-1 lead with 11:22 to go. Cassie Cesario put SHU back on the scoreboard with 4:52 to go with an assist from Alyssa Pearce.
Paige Hammick made 13 saves in goal for the Pioneers. Cesario added three groundballs, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers to her goal. Hammick, Farhat, Olivia Mittleman, and freshman Casey Hannon each had two groundballs as well.
SHU is back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 21 with a 3 p.m. game at Iona.
