The Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team plays its final three home games of the 2014 season beginning Friday, and will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday, April 13 versus Wagner College at 1 p.m. Prior to that contest, played on Campus Field, Shelby Vaccaro (Brightwaters, N.Y.) and Jacqueline Zlevor (Medfield, Mass.) will be honored for their four-years as members of the Pioneer lacrosse family, as the program welcome back their alumnae.
Sunday's game will also feature a fundraiser for Oliver's Team. Oliver Ciparelli is the three-year old son of two former Sacred Heart student-athletes that was diagnosed with Metachromatic Leukodystrophy, or MLD for short. Translated from doctor talk MLD means: meta - change, chromatic - color, leuko - white matter, dystrophy - degeneration. MLD's name comes from degeneration in the white matter of the brain and Central Nervous System (CNS).
While admission to women's lacrosse games is complimentary, the game on Sunday will have a suggested donation of $5.00, with all proceeds benefitting the Ciparelli family. The Pioneers sponsored a 5K Run/Walk in the fall, with over 250 attendees and raised more than $7,500 for the family.
Sacred Heart, 1-1 in NEC play, begins the three-game homestand Friday afternoon when Mount St. Mary's visits Campus Field at 3 p.m. The team's final regular season home game is Friday, April 18, also at 3 p.m., versus LIU Brooklyn.
