Vaccaro Tabbed As NEC Offensive Player Of The Week

Sacred Heart University senior Shelby Vaccaro (Brightwaters, N.Y.) was named the Northeast Conference Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.  The midfielder tallied 14 points in a 1-1 week for the Pioneers.

Vaccaro, a graduate of Bay Shore High School, scored seven points in each of the Pioneers two games last week.  She struck for 11 goals and three assists, to go along with three draw controls and two ground balls.

In an overtime win at home over Manhattan, Vaccaro helped the Pioneers rally from a 6-3 second-half deficit.  She scored six times, all after halftime, and added an assist, in the 13-12 victory.  On Saturday, Vaccaro scored five times, with two assists, in a non-conference loss at Monmouth.

Vaccaro leads the team in goals (20), assists (7) and points (27). She ranks second in the NEC in points and goals per game, and is fifth in assists.

Vaccaro and the Pioneers host crosstown rival Fairfield University on Wednesday, March 26.  The game, scheduled for 3 p.m. will be played on Campus Field.
