Women's Lacrosse Drops Season Opener At Brown

The Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team dropped a 19-6 decision to host Brown University in its 2014 season opener on Sunday. Jenna Liljeberg (Wrentham, Mass.) scored twice, while Caitlin Delaney (Cherry Hill, N.J.) and Jesslyn Joseph (Bolton, Mass.) each had a goal and an assist in the contest.

Brown struck for the first two goals in the opening 4:08, before Delaney tallied the Pioneers first goal of the year, netting a free position shot 5:01 into the season.  The Bears answered with the final 11 goals of the first-half, and the next 13 into the second-half, to build a 15-1 lead with 24:14 to play in the game.  Delaney fed Liljeberg for a tally at the 18:33 mark, as the Pioneers scored three out of four goals.

Kelly Keenan (Wantagh, N.Y.) made three saves in net for Sacred Heart. Kellie Roddy started and earned the win for Brown, allowing a goal in the first-half.  Victoria Holland made three saves for the Bears in her 30 minutes of action.

Joseph and Kylie Calandra (Washington Township, N.J.) each had two draw controls, while Delaney and Alison Braig (Reisterstown, Md.) both caused a turnover.

Sacred Heart returns to action on Wednesday, February 26 when it hosts Yale on Campus Field at 4 p.m.
