Gina Arnone (Bridgewater, NJ) has named the Enterprise Rent-A-Car/Sacred Heart University Student Athlete of the Week for November 17-23. Arnone notched three assists Saturday as well as two goals and one assist on Sunday as the women's ice hockey team swept Hamline this weekend.
The Pioneers used Arnone's three helpers on Saturday to skate pass the Pipers, 4-1. Her first tally of the day came from a 2 on 0 break as Arnone slid the puck across the crease allowing Whitney Dziama (Walpole, MA) to fire at an open net. The Pioneers fierce first line struck again for the final goal of the game as Arnone, Dziama, and Lauren Fontaine (Windsor, ON) cycled the puck and capitalized on a 3 on 2 rush.
In Sunday's finale Sacred Heart erased a two goal deficit and stormed past Hamline 4-2. Arnone scored her first goal of the series in the second period after a slap shot from Brittany Hartman (Edina, NJ) bounced free in front of the net. Arnone also netted the game tying goal early in the third period with a feed from Fontaine. Both of Arnone's goals came with the Pioneers on the one-man advantage.
Arnone is the Pioneers leading scorer, tallying nine points for the season with three goals and six assists. She is one of the most prolific goal scorers in school history with 96 career points, 54 goals and 42 assists.
