Fairfield, CT- Complete Game Notes-PDF
The Set Up... The Pioneers continue their 7 game road trip traveling to Syracuse for a weekend series. Game 1 is scheduled for Friday night at 7 pm and game 2 will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 pm. SHU is coming off a 5-2 win over URI last weekend and a split the previous weekend at Maine.
History... The weekend series will be the first meeting between the Orange and Pioneers. The 2008-09 season is Syracuse’s first year as a Division I program. Friday night’s contest at the Tennity Ice Pavilion will serve as the home opener for Syracuse.
Scouting the Orange... Despite their 1-6 record the Orange will be a tough opponent for the Pioneers. Syracuse has played a challenging schedule including tilts with Robert Morris, Wisconsin, and Quinnipiac. Freshman Lisa Mullan currently leads the Orange with 5 points, netting one goal and four assists.
Up Next... The Pioneers will travel to Salve Regina next weekend for one game. SHU then will conclude their lengthy road trip the following weekend as they take on Nichols College.
Searching for Offense.. The Pioneers have only scored 4 goals in NCAA games this season. With so many offensive weapons there is little doubt the Pioneers can score goals. The Pioneers have notched 11 goals in their two exhibition contests. The offensive explosion has not fully materialized as a young SHU squad may still be searching for its identity.
Player of the Week... Sacred Heart’s goaltending controversy appears to be over. Amanda Nagel has played superbly between the pipes and was named the Enterprise Rent-A-Car/SHU Student Athlete of the week after her performance in Maine. Nagel tallied 88 saves in goal, as SHU defeated Maine for the first time in program history on Friday night, 3-2. Nagel snared 42 shots on goal in the win and notched 46 more saves the following night.
