Fairfield, CT- Freshman Amanda Nagel (Greenwood, MN) of the women’s hockey team has been named the Enterprise Rent-A-Car/ Sacred Heart University Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 19th.
Nagel tallied 88 saves in goal this weekend as the Pioneers took on the University of Maine. Sacred Heart defeated Maine for the first time in program history on Friday night, taking a 3-2 decision. Nagel snared 42 shots on goal in the win and notched 46 more saves the following night.
Nagel has started her Pioneer career making 157 saves in only four games. Sacred Heart (1-2-0) started this season with two tough opponents taking on now ranked #10 UConn and the Black Bears of Maine who boast several Canadian national players. Nagel also made 17 saves in a Pioneer win over national runner-up, club team Robert Morris College 6-4.
Nagel will look to lead the Pioneers to two more Division I victories as SHU takes on Syracuse in its inaugural NCAA season October 31 and November 1. The Pioneers also have a tilt with club team URI October 25 in Kingston, Rhode Island.
