Pioneers Travel to Union for Weekend Series

Setting the Scene...  Sacred Heart travels to Schenectady, NY for a weekend series with Union College. Game one will be Friday at 7:00, while the second will take place at 4:00 on Saturday.

 

About Sacred Heart... Junior forward Lauren Fontaine and sophomore forward Nicole Palazzo lead the Pioneers in scoring with one goal and two assists apiece. Freshman goaltender Emily Siira has posted a .853 save percentage and 5.80 goals against average through two games, while sophomore Raelene Sydor sports a .774 save percentage and 11.09 GAA.

 

Scouting the Dutchwomen... Union has started the season 0-3 and was swept at Vermont last weekend.  Senior defender Jackie Koetteritz and freshman forward have tallied one goal each in the young season.  Sophomore forward Lauren Hoffman led the team with seven goals a year ago, while junior Marissa Gentile returns after recording 10 points in 2008-09, two goals and eight assists.  Through three games freshman goaltender Alana Marcinko has registered 80 saves and holds a 3.02 GAA.

 

Last Time They Met... Union swept a weekend series at the Wonderland of Ice in Bridgeport on November 28th and 29th last season.  In the opener, the Dutchwomen won 3-2 in overtime when Lauren Hoffman notched her second goal of the contest.  Union took game two behind two goals from Lauren Cromartie.  The Pioneers got a goal and an assist from Fontaine.

 

Last Time Out... The Pioneers fell to interstate rival Quinnipiac 4-1 at the TD Bank Sports Center on October 3rd. Senior forward Kate Dunlop scored SHU’s lone goal against former teammate Amanda Nagel. Siira made 37 saves in the loss.

 

Up Next... The Pioneers travel to Rhode Island for a 7:00 pm face-off on October 24.
