The Set-Up... The Pioneers are set to open the 2008-09 campaign on a positive note as they take on the Huskies of Connecticut. This will also be the first NCAA matchup of the season for UCONN.

The Inaugural Meeting... Today's game will mark the first face off between these Nutmeg state rivals.

The Return of Gina Arnone... The Pioneers welcome back senior captain and offensive force Gina Arnone. Arnone missed substantial time last season with a knee injury. SHU gladly welcomes back Arnone’s on-ice leadership along with her 51 career goals and 87 points.

Up Next... The Pioneers open their home schedule in two weeks, October 11th, when they host Robert Morris College.

Avoiding a Sophomore Slump... Sacred Heart received a serious boost from last years incoming class. The top 3 scorers for the red and white were all first year players. Freshmen phenom Lauren Fontaine led the way anchoring the Pioneers first line. She lit the lamp 16 times and added six assists for a 22 point season. Kate Dunlop, a first year sophomore, provided 16 points. Dunlop was closely followed by LaPierre, a true freshman who totaled eight goals and seven assists.

Between the Pipes... Two freshman goalkeepers, Amanda Nagel and Raelene Sydor, have been battling for the starting job throughout training camp. It is possible that Coach Tom O'Malley will use both netminders early in the season until someone wins the job.
