FAIRFIELD, CT - The 2001-02 Women's Ice Hockey team completed their most successful season to date, recording a team-high 17 wins on the season and tying the 1998-99 team for most ECAC wins with 12. This year's squad ended with a record of 17-9-0, 12-6-0 ECAC Division III. The Pioneers took home their last win of the season and the title of ECAC Open Champions on February 24 as they beat host Holy Cross 3-2 in overtime. Captain Angela Yuhas scored the game-winner after 10:13 of overtime play.

Leading the Pioneer scoring effort was Yuhas with 37 points on 13 goals and 24 assists. Right behind her was freshman standout Lyndsey Bennett, who led the team in goals scored with 16 and contributed the same number of assists to earn her 32 points in her rookie year. Last year's All-American honoree Sarah Bergin followed close behind with 27 points in only 19 games played, out of the team's total 26. Bergin scored 12 goals and added 15 assists for the Pioneers this season.

Goaltenders Kimberly Derleth and Taryn Catania both had winning records this season, with Derleth posting a record of 9-5-0 for a winning percentage of .643. She ended her career with Sacred Heart with an impressive .922 save percentage and a goals against average of 2.24 over four years. Catania, a sophomore, finished the season with a .923 save percentage, 2.34 goals against average and a record of 7-4-0.
