Fairfield, CT - Seniors Gina Arnone (Bridgewater, NJ) and Whitney Dziama (Walpole, MA) have been named captains of the Sacred Heart women's ice hockey team for the 2008-09 season. Classmates Kristina Feltz (Edison, NJ) and Jaclyn Rideout (Wilmington, MA) will serve as the assistant captains for the Pioneers.
Named to a second season in the captaincy, Arnone was the Pioneers leading scorer during her first two seasons at SHU and was on her way to another outstanding season in 2007-08 before an injury cost her the second half of the season. In 64 games in the red and white jersey she has scored 50 goals and added 37 assists for a total of 87 points in her career.
Dziama also was an assistant captain for the Pioneers last season. She became one of the Pioneers most consistent players late in the season and finished the year fourth on the team with 15 points, six goals and nine assists. In 82 career games she has scored 15 goals, and 33 assists for 48 total points.
One of the top defensemen on the Pioneer team, Feltz became one of the quarterbacks of the Pioneer power play. She finished the year second amnongst Pioneer defensemen in scoring with seven assists in 25 games. In three season she has a total of 26 points, with four goals and 22 assists.
Rideout is a four year member of the Pioneer team and is one of the top defensive forwards on the squad. She has piled up nine goals and 12 assists and 21 points in 66 games during her Pioneer career.
The Pioneers will open their 2008-09 season on Sepetember 27 when they visit the Univeristy of Connecticut.
