Fairfield, CT - Sacred Heart women's ice hockey coach Thomas O'Malley has announced the four players who will serve as capatains for the Pioneers during the 2007-08 season. Senior Devon Gaslin (Augusta, ME) and junior Gina Arnone (Bridgewater, NJ) will wear the capatins "C's" while senior Katelin McLaughlin (Hingham, MA) and junior Whitney Dziama (Walpole, MA) will serve as the assistant captains.
Gaslin has been part of the top defensive pair for the Pioneers the last two years. She has been a force on the powerplay, penalty kill and even strength. On offense, she was the leading offensive defenseman for Sacred Heart. Last year she led all defensemen with 22 points, five goals and 17 assists.
Arnone was the Pioneers' leading scorer in the last two seasons. This season she tallied 50 points, 29 goals and 21 assists. In 2005-06 she led the NCAA in goals per game in addition to leading the Pioneers in scoring.
McLaughlin has been a mainstay on the top line for the Pioneers throughout her career. She scored nine goals and added 19 assists for 28 points last season, the third highest total on the team.
Dziama made an immediate impact in her freshman season and continued to be an offensive force in her second year as a Pioner. In 2006-07 she was fourth on the team with 26 points, nine goals and 17 assists.
