Setting the Scene... The Pioneer women's ice hockey team concludes their regular season home schedule Saturday afternoon as they welcome Rhode Island to the Wonderland of Ice. Face-off is set for 2:00 pm and Sacred Heart will honor their three graduating seniors in ceremonies prior to the game.
Last Time Out...Senior Michelle Panella had two goals and an assist and five different Pioneers scored goals as Sacred Heart posted a 6-4 win over Holy Cross in women's ice hockey action Tuesday night at the Hart Center.
SHU Leaders... Sophomore Gina Arnone leads the Pioneers offense for the season with 23 goals and 17 assists, for a total of 40 points. Those are team high stats in each category. Panella is second with 21 goals and 14 assists for 35 points on the year. Junior Devon Gaslin leads the Pioneer defense core with 20 points, four goals and 16 assists.
Last Time vs Rhode Island... Senior Michelle Panella scored what would turn out to be the game winning goal at 15:40 of the second period, while senior goalie Stephanie Boulay made 17 saves to lead the Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team to a 5-1 win over the University of Rhode Island. It was the first game for the Pioneers in their new home at the Wonderland of Ice in Bridgeport.
The Closer... The Pioneers close out the season next weekend at the ECAC Open Tournament, hosted by St. Michael's College. The semifinals are set for Saturday with the championship on Sunday.
