Setting the Scene... The Pioneer women's ice hockey team will take the ice three times this week, visiting Wesleyan Tuesday night and traveling to Rochester for a two game set with RIT Friday and Saturday. Tuesday's game at Wesleyan is scheduled to be broadcast on SacredHeartPioneers.com with a 7:00 pm face-off. The puck drops at Ritter Arena at 7:00 pm Friday and 2:00 pm on Saturday.

SHU Drops Pair to Union... Sacred Heart lost two games to Union over the weekend, falling 4-0 Saturday and 3-2 on Sunday. Carla Pentimone and Taryn Lapierre scored the Pioneer goals. Gabriela Wintner had three goals and three assists in the series for the Dutchwomen.

Last Meeting vs Wesleyan... Gina Arnone scored two goals and junior Katelin McLaughlin added a goal and assist as Sacred Heart scored three power play goals to beat Wesleyan, 4-2, in women's ice hockey action last year at the Wonderland of Ice.

Scouting the Cardinals... Wesleyan starts the week with a 3-10 record after losing to Colby and Bowdoin over the weekend. Junior Hannah Jackson leads the Cardinal attack with four goals and seven assists, 11 points on the year. Freshman Sena Ito has scored a team high six goals along with three assists. In goal, Rachel Stemerman has started every game, posting a 3.18 goals against average and .914 save percentage.

Scouting the Tigers... RIT is 10-5-0 on the year after splitting a series with No. 1 Plattsburgh over the weekend. Freshman Amanda Klassen has scored a team high 10 goals and has three assists along with that. Senior Isabelle Richard has seven goals and eight assists for a team high 15 points. Junior Sandra Grant is the number one goaltender, posting a 1.76 goals against average and .927 save percentage.
 

 

New Faces Up Front... A quartet of freshmen, Lauren Fontaine, Carla Pentimone, Taryn Lapierre and Kristina Hankins have made an impact in their first seasons as Pioneers. Fontaine leads the team with 16 goals and five assists for 21 points. Pentimone is second on the team with 14 points, inlcuding five goals and a team-leading nine assists. Hankins has six goals and four assists. Lapierre has six goals and five assists, 11 points.

And in the Goal... Three freshmen goalies, including Jessica Little who has alreadys seen significant time, should see action in goal for SHU this season. The other newcomers are Arissa Lyons and Christina Cahill. Senior Sarah Perry is the only returning goaltender for the Pioneers. Little and Perry have seen the most time, with Perry picking up the Pioneers three wins on the season.

Up Next... Sacred Heart returns home to host Trinity on Friday February 1 at 7:00 pm at Wonderland.
