Pioneers Look to Stay on the Offensive at Neumann

Setting the Scene...  Sacred Heart heads to Neumann College for a two-game weekend series. Game one faces off at 7:00 pm Friday night. The puck will also drop at 7:00 pm for Saturday’s game.


About Sacred Heart... The Pioneers enter today’s game with a record of 5-11-1. Junior forwards Lauren Fontaine and Brittany Hartman lead the team in scoring with 18 points apiece. Fontaine has a team-high 10 goals with eight assists, while Hartman has recorded eight goals and 10 assists. Senior Kate Dunlop ranks third in scoring with six goals and nine assists. In between the pipes for the Pioneers, freshman Emily Siira has started 13 games and made 400saves, while owning a .862 save percentage.


Scouting the Knights... Neumann enter’s the weekend with a record of 5-6-1 overall. Junior Jessica Schroeder leads the Knights in scoring with five goals and a team-best 11 assists. Sophomore Diane Peters is second in scoring with two goals and nine assists, while junior Niki Blazenko is third with a team-high six goals and five assists. In net, freshman Shannon Donnelly has appeared in seven games and owns a .909 save percentage. Senior netminder Laura Keeley has recorded a .871 save percentage in five games played.


Last Time Out... SHU earned a split at Bowdoin College last weekend. In game one, the Pioneers erupted for nine goals, their single biggest outpouring of offense this season. The final score was 9-7. Fontaine

and Hartman each netted a pair of goals and three assists. The two teams combined for one penalty in 60 minutes of play. The Polar Bears took game two 5-2. Fontaine and sophomore Tara Kent notched the a goal each for Sacred Heart.


Last Time They Met... Sacred Heart took both ends of a weekend series, 5-4 and 10-6, at Neumann last January. Five different skaters recorded a goal in game one, including Dunlop who added two assists. She also scored twice in game two, while Lapierre assisted on two goals and lit the lamp once herself. For the series, Fontaine scored

twice and had two assists as Kristina Hankins scored in each game.


Up Next... The Pioneers hit the road again for a two-game set at Robert Morris (PA) on January 22 and 23.


Home Cookin’... The Red & White beat Nichols to start a stretch of seven straight home games. So far the Pioneers are 3-2 on their home ice, plus a split series with Western Ontario and a 4-4 tie in an exhibition matchup with Robert Morris (IL).  Last season, Sacred Heart went 7-6 at the Wonderland of Ice.


Nutmeg Classic... Yale hosted the annual Nutmeg Classic at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, CT on Thanksgiving weekend. In the first round, SHU lost the opening game to the host Bulldogs 10-1. Sophomore Sara Reddington registered the lone Pioneer goal. The University of Connecticut took down Quinnipiac 1-0 to advance to the finals. In the championship round, UConn beat Yale 6-1.


Life on the Road... Sacred Heart opened the season with a string of seven straight away games, plus an exhibition at Rhode Island. The Pioneers returned home after completing a 1-6 mark on the road. SHU lost the opening series of the season at Maine with losses of 9-0 and 11-4.
