SHU Women's Ice Hockey at Bowdoin for Two Game Set

Setting the Scene... Sacred Heart visits Bowdoin College for two games in Brunswick, ME. The puck drops for game one at 7:00 pm on Saturday, followed by game two at 2:00 pm Sunday.
About Sacred Heart... The Pioneers enter today’s game with a record of 4-10-1. Junior forwards Lauren Fontaine and Brittany Hartman lead the team in scoring with 12 points apiece. Fontaine has a team-high seven goals with five assists, while Hartman has recorded six goals and six assists. Classmate Taryn Lapierre ranks third in points with 11, four goals and seven assists. In between the pipes for the Pioneers, freshman Emily Siira has started 12 games and made 347saves, while owning a .861 save percentage.
Scouting the Polar Bears... Sophomore Dominique Lozzi leads the way for the 4-4-2 Polar Bears with a team-high five goals and seven assists. Freshman Kayte Holtz is second in scoring with four goals and six assists. In the cage, freshman Kayla Lessard has appeared in seven games earning a save percentage of .912 and a 1.91 GAA.
Last Time Out... SHU tied Southern Maine in its first road contest of 2010. The Pioneers let a 3-1 lead slip away and found themselves trailing 4-3 midway through the third period. Sophomore defender Caitlin Gottwald scored on a power play goal, for the second game in a row, to tie the game 4-4 with 4:14 to play in the game. Classmates Jennifer Burroughs and Nicole Palazzo along with freshman Sarah Delaney all netted goals in the game.
Last Time The Met... Bowdoin defeated Sacred Heart, 7-6 in overtime, at the Wonderland of Ice on January 13 of last year. Lozzi scored twice, including the game winner, to lead the Husky attack. Fontaine scored a pair of goals and picked up a pair of assists for the Pioneers. The two teams combined to score seven goals in the first period, the first three of which were scored by Bowdoin.
Up Next... The Pioneers return home to host Lindenwood College at 2:00 pm on Wednesday January 13.
Home Cookin’... The Red & White beat Nichols to start a stretch of seven straight home games. So far the Pioneers are 3-2 on their home ice, plus a split series with Western Ontario and a 4-4 tie in an exhibition matchup with Robert Morris (IL). Last season, Sacred Heart went 7-6 at the Wonderland of Ice.
Nutmeg Classic... Yale hosted the annual Nutmeg Classic at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, CT on Thanksgiving weekend. In the first round, SHU lost the opening game to the host Bulldogs 10-1. Sophomore Sara Reddington registered the lone Pioneer goal. The University of Connecticut took down Quinnipiac 1-0 to advance to the finals. In the championship round, UConn beat Yale 6-1.
Life on the Road... Sacred Heart opened the season with a string of seven straight away games, plus an exhibition at Rhode Island. The Pioneers returned home after completing a 1-6 mark on the road. SHU lost the opening series of the season at Maine with losses of 9-0 and 11-4.
