Siira's 37 Saves Leads Way for Pioneers

BRIDGEPORT, CT (December 30, 2009) – Freshman goaltender Emily Siira (Cedarburg, WI) allowed only one goal and made 37 stops en route to a 3-1 victory for the Sacred Heart University women’s ice hockey team. Her one blemish came in the 12th minute of the final period as Lindsay Repath netted the lone goal for Western Ontario.
Junior Taryn Lapierre (Oakland, RI) notched the first goal of the game, on a power play, in the 13th minute of the second period. Classmate Lauren Fontaine (Windsor, ON) followed with a goal early in the third to put the Pioneers up 2-0. Senior Kate Dunlop (Flesherton, ON) assisted on both goals.
In net for UWO, Brittany O’Halloran started and made 17 saves, while giving up one score, in the first two periods. Jessica Ulrich played the third and amassed 12 saves an allowed one goal.
Sacred Heart returns to action for the final contest on a seven game home stand against Lake Forest at 1:00 pm on January 5.
