Box Score

Bridgport CT-Sacred Heart forwards Lauren Fontaine (Windsor, ON) and Gina Arnone (Bridgewater, NJ) scored for the Pioneers as SHU dropped its second straight contest to Union, 5-2. Union freshman Lauren Cromartie found the net twice in the third period to secure the series sweep of Sacred Heart.

The Dutchwomen (2-13-1) struck first on an Emilie Arsenault marker 7:17 into the game. Sacred Heart (4-8-0) evened the score four minutes later as Fontaine capitalized on a short-handed break. Fontaine blocked a slap shot from the point with her body to create a break away. She then found herself one on one with goalkeeper Lundy Day. Day made the first move, to her left, and Fontaine flipped the puck past her with a backhand.

Union found the net one more time in the first period as Suzy Pocock capitalized on Chelsea Heinhuis' second assist of the game. The Pioneers evened the game again two minutes into the second period as Arnone scored with assists from Fontaine and Whitney Dziama (Walpole, MA). Only moments later, SHU caught a break and the game remained tied after a Union attacker hit the goal post on a wide open net.  Amanda Nagel (Greenwood, MN) kept the game tied with a great blocker save on a Dutchwomen 2 on 0 break at the end of the frame.

Cromartie lit the lamp twice early in the third period, the second on a break away from Heinhuis' third assist of the day. Kelly Alyea scored the Dutchwomen's fifth goal with only 1:14 to play, providing the final score of 5-2. Union outshot Sacred Heart 39-33 as Nagel made 34 saves in the loss.

The Pioneers are not back in action until December 16th as they welcome Robert Morris University to the Wonderland of Ice for a weekend series.
