Final Stats

Bridgeport, CT - Calle Heywood scored two goals and Gabriella Wintner added a goal and two assists as Union scored seven unanswered goals to zoom past Sacred Heart, 7-1, in women's ice hockey action Tuesday night at Wonderland of Ice.

The Pioneers got off to a fast start when freshman Lauren Fontaine (Windsor, ON) scored her team leading fifth goal of the season at the 7:14 mark of the first period. Junior Whitney Dziama (Walpole, MA) fed the puck through the goal mouth to Fontaine who slapped redirected it into the net.

Union scored three goals in a 2:36 span midway through the first period. Just 46 seconds after SHU took the lead, Heywood tallied her first career goal to get the Dutchwomen onslaught started. Elsa Perushek gave the Dutchwomen the lead 1:18 seconds later with a slapshot from the point. Less than two minutes later Kelly Fleming capped the period's scoring with her first career goal, knocking in a rebound from a shot by Suzy Pocock.

Courtney Chais started Union's four-goal middle stanza less than a minute into the frame, faking out Sacred Heart goaltender Jessica Little (Fishers, IN) to her right before sliding the puck across into the far corner of the net.

Heywood and Wintner combined to score two goals in a 10 second span to make it 6-1. With less than a minute remaining in the frame, Pocock netted her first goal of the season, connecting on a long cross-ice pass from Wintner as the pair crossed into the Pioneers' zone.

Senior Sarah Perry (Sudbury, MA) had a strong third period in goal for the Pioneers after relieving Litlle. Perry made 16 saves and did not allow a goal.

The Pioneers are back in action Saturday night when they visit Rhode Island. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
