ASTON, PA (November 20) - The Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team fell to the Neumann College Knights 6-3 in action on Saturday night despite a hat trick from freshman Katelin McLaughlin (Hingham, MA).
McLaughlin opened up the scoring for the Pioneers just 1:26 into the game on a feed from Michelle Panella (Morganville, NJ) and Shannon Murphay (South Boston, MA). The Pioneer lead, however, would not last long as Neumann would rip off three goals before the first period ended to put SHU in a 3-1 hole.
Neumann would score the evenutal game-winner just :42 seconds into the second period for a 4-1 lead. McLaughlin would net her second of the game to cut the lead to 4-2 at the 5:14 mark, but Neumann's Melissa Pacitti answered back short handed at the 12:38 mark to put the game out of reach.
McLaughlin completed the hat trick at 4:50 into the third, but the Knights answered back again later in the third for the 6-3 victory.
SHU goalie Sarah Perry (Sudbury, MA) finished the night with 30 saves and Neumann goaltender Teresa White finished the contest with 42 saves.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, December 4 as they travel to take on Rhode Island at 4:00 PM.
