ASTON, PA (November 19) - The Sacred Heart Universkty women's hockey team rallied from a three-goal deficit and skated to a 3-3 tie with the Neumann College Knights on Friday November 9, 2004 at the Ice Works Quad Arena in Aston, PA.

In the first period the Knights came out strong scoring the first goal of the game only 3:58 into the period. Neumann's goal was scored by freshman Kristen Gauthier (Warwick, RI) when she was set up by fellow Knights senior Missy Pacitti (Glen Mills, PA) and freshman Samantha May (Whitestone, NY). Just 5 minutes later the Knights took a 2-0 lead when freshman Jessica McAllister (Philadelphia, PA) lit the lamp. Senior Jill Gray (Wilmington, DE) assisted McAllister on the goal.

Neumann took a 3-0 lead in the second period when senior Nichelle Simon (Duluth, GA) scored on the power-play with the help of McAllister and Gauthier. The Pioneers quickly rebounded just 2:36 after Neumann's goal to cut the lead to 3-1. The unassisted goal was scored by Devon Gaslin (Augusta, MA). With just 2:41 left in the second period, Shannon Murphy (South Boston, MA) scored on a rebound on the power-play to bring the Pioneers back within 1.

In the third period Murphy was able to net another goal to tie the game up at 3. She was assisted on the goal by Karly Schulte (Davie, FL) and Katelin McLaughlin (Hingham, MA). Both teams battled back and forth for the remainder of the period but the score remained tied after 3 periods of play.

Neumann goaltender Lauren Voran (Philadelphia, PA) kept the Knights in the game as they were out shot 9-1 in the overtime period. She would finish with 37 saves, SHU goalie Stephanie Boulay (Anchorage, AK) finished with 22.

 

 

The Pioneers and the Knights will play in the second of this weekend's double-header on Saturday October 20, 2004 at the Ice Works Quad Arena in Aston, PA with a game time of 1:30 PM.
