SHU Swept in Weekend Series by Union

SCHENECTADY, NY (October 17, 2009) – The Sacred Heart University women’s ice hockey lost to Union College, 3-1, at Messa Rink Saturday afternoon.  The loss dropped the Pioneers to 0-5 on the season, while the win improved the Dutchwomen to 2-3.

 

Sophomore forward Lauren Hoffman found the back of the net for Union 16:04 into the second stanza.  SHU answered immediately with a goal by sophomore forward Tara Kent (Glenview, IL/Chicago Young Americans), assisted by classmate Jamie Mey (Middletown, RI/St. George’s) and freshman Sarah Delaney (Whittman, MA/Thayer), 16:56 into the second period.

 

Dutchwomen sophomore Emilie Aresenault netted the game winner in the final minute of the second period off an assist from junior Perri Maduri.  Freshman Jeannie Sabourin added an insurance goal for Union in the third period.

 

In net for the Pioneers, freshman Emily Siira (Cedarburg, WI/Wisconsin Wild) made 22 saves.  Dutchwomen sophomore goaltender Kate Gallagher made 23 saves in the win.

 

Sacred Heart travels to the University of Rhode Island next Saturday, October 24, for a 7:00 pm faceoff.
