SCHENECTADY, NY (October 16, 2009) – The Sacred Heart University women’s ice hockey team fell to Union College 6-0 at Messa Rink Friday night. With the loss the Pioneers drop to 0-4, while the Dutchwomen earned their first win of the season to improve to 1-3.
Sophomore forward Molly Kate Devin struck first for Union with a goal 7:34 in. Devin would later add assists on two goals by senior defender Jackie Koetteritz and another on one of classmate Kelly Alyea’s two goals.
Freshman goaltender Emily Siira (Cedarburg, WI/Wisconsin Wild) made 36 saves between the pipes for SHU. In goal for Union, freshman Alana Marcinko made 25 stops to preserve the shutout. The Dutchwomen outshot the Pioneers 42-25.
Sacred Heart and Union faceoff again tomorrow in the second tilt of the series at 4:00 pm.
