Final Stats

Elmira, NY - The Sacred Heart women's ice hockey team lost a pair of games this weekend in a road trip to central New York. The Pioneers fell to Elmira, 5-1 on Friday night and then lost a 5-3 decision to Cortland State Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers got off to a fast start Friday night as junior Devon Gaslin (Augusta, ME) scored the first goal of the game with 4:45 left in the first period. Elmira tied the game with 1:38 left in the first on a marker by Stefanie McLean.

After a scorless second period, the Purple Eagles scored four unanswered goals in the third to take the victory. Tiffany Hart scored the game winner 2:28 into the stanza and McLean provided the insurance with her second tally of the game with 5:35 left. Jenna McCall and Jaime Huntley each netted goals late in the period as well. Elmira outshot Sacred Heart 42-19 in the game.

Saturday afternoon it was Cortland that got off to a fast start as Jeanna Dippel scored just 1:38 into the game for the Red Dragons. Senior Michelle Panella (Marlboro, NJ) tied the game 5:40 into the second but five minutes later Judy Ellis gave the Red Dragons the lead back. Heather Crowley tallied a goal with 30 seconds left in the second to give Cortland a two goal after two periods.

Fresman Sandy Parlato (Needham, MA) brought the Pioneers within one goal 6:01 into the third period, but Cailin O'Hara scored less then two minutes later to put the Dragons ahead for good. Freshman Brittany Rosselle (Pawling, NY) scored her first career goal for the Pioneers late in the game.

The Pioneers are back in action Saturday afternoon when they host Rhode Island on Senior Day at the Wonderland of Ice. Face-off is set for 2:00 pm with pregame ceremonies honoring the Sacred Heart seniors also scheduled.
