Final Stats

MILFORD, CT (February 6) - The Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team fell for the second consecutive afternoon to the Union Dutchwomen by a final score of 4-2 at the Milford Ice Pavilion on Sunday afternoon.

After a scoreless first period, Sacred Heart would jump on top. It would be Michelle Panella sending a shot over the glove of Dutchwomen goaltender Lauren Carlson for the 1-0 lead just 1:49 into the second period. Shannon Murphy picked up an assist on the goal. Union, however, would chip in a pair of goals despite the brilliant play of SHU goalie Stephanie Boulay. Courtney Riepenhoff deflected home a Stephanie Armstrong pass to knot the game at 1-1 at the 7:40 mark before Ashley Kilstein sent home the second Union goal banging in a shot that deflected off the crossbar from Kelly Lannan.

Sacred Heart would rally early in the third, knotting the game just 2:24 into the third when Sarah Turbert sent home a Devon Gaslin rebound. With the game threatening an extra frame Union's Elise Nicoles put the Dutchwomen on top for good with just 4:13 remaining. Linnea Edwardson would add an insurance goal with 2:17 left to ice the game for Union.

Boulay finished the night making 54 saves in taking the loss, while Carlson stopped 17 to pick up the win for Union.

The Pioneers return to action on Friday, February 11 when they travel to Clinton, NY for a pair of games with Hamilton College. Face off on Friday is at 7:00 and Saturday at 3:00 PM.
