Schnectady, NY - The Sacred Heart women's ice hockey team lost a pair of games to Union College this weekend. SHU dropped Saturday's affair 4-0 and lost the second game of the series by a 3-2 score.
In Saturday's game Gabriela Wintner had two goals and two assists and freshman Suzanne Ostrow added a goal and assist for the Dutchwomen. Goaltender Lundy Day made 23 saves to earn the shutout.
Sunday afternoon the Pioneers got off to a fast start, as freshman Carla Pentimone (Chicago, IL) scored just 4:08 into the game. However, Union scored two goals midway through the period to take the lead. Wintner was again in the middle of the action for the Ducthwomen, tallying a goal and an assist.
Frehsman Taryn Lapierre (Burillville, RI) scored just a minute after Union had taken the lead to again even the score. However, Jackie Koetteritz scored 6:54 into the second period to tally what proved to be the game winning goal.
Pioneer goaltender Sarah Perry (Sudbury, MA) made 31 saves in Saturday's game and stopped 33 shots in Sunday's contest.
Sacred Heart is back in action Tuesday night when they visit Wesleyan. Face-off is set for 7:00 pm.
