Aston, PA - Samantha May scored the game-tying goal 2:03 into the third period as Neumann rallied for a 4-4 tie with Sacred Heart in women's ice hockey action Wednesday night at Ice Works Arena. Sophomore Gina Arnone (Bridgewater, NJ) had a goal and two assists while senior Michelle Panella (Marlboro, NJ) added a goal and an assist for the Pioneers.

Sacred Heart got on the board first, scoring a power-play goal off the stick of sophomore Allie Gillman (Montreal, QC) in the eighth minute of the game. Neumann tied the game at 18:39, when newcomer Tabatha Schury took control of a rebound shot and passed the puck to Kristen Gauthier, who scored Neumann's first goal of the day.

The second period began in a 1-1 tie, however, the scoring opened up when Gauthier registered her second goal of the game on another assist from Schury. Neumann then jumped to a two-goal lead on a power-play goal by Carly Fitzsimmons. Arnone and Panella scored power play goals 2:40 apart to tie the game for SHU. The Pioneers took a 4-3 lead on another power play goal by Katelin McLaughlin (Hingham, MA) to end a high scoring second period.

Neumann tied the game 2 minutes into the third period on a short-handed goal by May from center ice. The game remained tied through the rest of the third period sending the game into a 5-minute overtime.

Both goaltenders had a strong showings in the offensive game. Freshman Kristen Olychuck (Kelowna, BC) made 39 saves for the Pioneers while Teresa White stopped 32 shots in goal for the Knights.
 

 

The Pioneers are back in action Saturday, January 20th when they open a two game series at Hamilton. Face-off is set for 7:00 pm with the rematch on Sunday, January 21st at 2:00 pm.
