MILFORD, CT (January 5) - Michelle Panella scored four goals and Jessica Felt added another to lead the Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team past the Saint Michael's College Purple Knights on Wednesday afternoon at the Milford Ice Pavilion.

Panella, who would score the first three goals of the game, opened the scoring late in the first period on the power play, sending a shot past Saint Michael's goaltender Marcy Ring with 2:29 left in the period. Katelin McLaughlin picked up the lone helper

Panella would net her second of the game finishing off a Shannon Murphy rebound just 4:43 into the second stanza. She would complete the hat trick sending home a short-handed goal. Panella set the goal up by creating a turnover in the neutral zone and skating in alone from the top of the face-off circles down.

The Knights would attempt to climb back into the contest with time winding down in the second, converting on their second power play oppertunity of the afternoon. Gabrielle Bourgeois sent home a feed from Melissa Gagne and Katie Grable for the lone Purple Knight tally.

Sacred Heart's Jessica Felt and Panella would score just 35 seconds apart in the thrid period to shut the door on Saint Michael's.

Sarah Perry made 14 saves in net for the Pioneers and Ring finished the day with 35 saves.

The Pioneers return to action on January 8 for the first of two games with the University of Maine Black Bears in Orono, ME.
